Conversational Spanish Through Cooking

Discover the Spanish language through conversation, culture, and cooking! In this beginner-friendly class, you'll learn practical vocabulary and phrases for everyday situations while building confidence through interactive discussions and activities. Each session also features a hands-on cooking experience, where you'll prepare traditional Mexican dishes while practicing Spanish in a relaxed and supportive environment. Whether you're new to the language or looking for a fun way to refresh your skills, this course offers a delicious introduction to Spanish and Mexican culture.

What You'll Learn

Week 1: Spanish Basics & EnchiladasLearn how to introduce yourself, talk about your interests, and practice basic conversation while preparing traditional enchiladas.

Week 2: Everyday Verbs & Sopes de TingaBuild your vocabulary with common verbs and simple grammar, then put your skills into practice while making authentic sopes de tinga.

Week 3: Building Sentences & Bistec RancheroLearn how to form questions and complete sentences, gain confidence speaking Spanish, and prepare a classic bistec ranchero meal.

Week 4: Spanish Cooking Challenge & PresentationWork as a team to prepare a traditional dish and agua fresca using the skills you've learned throughout the course, then present your creation in Spanish.

MEET JUANA!
Juana Williams is an Environmental Engineer, native Spanish speaker, and fluent English communicator who has called Maine home for the past three years. Passionate about nature and the environment, she also enjoys cooking authentic Mexican cuisine. Inspired by a longing for the flavors of home, Juana began preparing traditional Mexican dishes and loves sharing them with family and friends.

Sewing Open Studio

Every sewist knows what it’s like to cut their fabric on the floor and then sew at the kitchen table. We also know it’s a bit lonely and sometimes frustrating to find help when we are stuck on a particularly baffling pattern instruction. Whether you’re trying to complete unfinished projects or start new ones, Nancy will be on hand to guide you through the difficult spots. Bring your sewing machine and supplies, or do hand work.

NACE has irons, ironing boards, cutting mats, and rulers available to use during class time. If you need to borrow a sewing machine, please let us know ahead of the class.

Senior Rate (65+) is $45. Please call or stop by the office to register.

How to Market Your Book

In this one-night workshop, author and medium Rob Gutro will provide guidance in how to best self-market your book. Writing a book can sometimes be the easiest part! Marketing is a constant job! You’ll learn about some easy to make resources in this course and how to look for interviews. Rob will guide you through building a marketing plan to help turn your story into a successful self-published title.

Pottery Wheel Basics

Have you ever wanted to learn how to use a pottery wheel but felt intimidated by where to start? Join instructor Cynthia Plaisted in this 5-week beginner wheel throwing class where she will show you the fundamentals of creating on the pottery wheel. From centering your clay, to learning how to throw simple forms, this class is a great way for you to step into the fun world of pottery wheel work. No pottery experience is needed, just a willingness to get your hands dirty and resist the urge to dramatically recreate that scene from Ghost. (Patrick Swayze references are optional, but encouraged.)

Clay and glaze cost is $50, due to the instructor at the first class.

Wire Wrap Jewelry

Join us for a fun and creative wire wrapping class where you’ll learn techniques to create your own beautiful wire-wrapped pieces - no matter your experience level! Whether you’re brand new or looking to sharpen your skills, this class is for you. There will be several projects to select from. Let’s get wrapping and make something magical together! All skill levels are welcome. Please bring round nose jewelry pliers with you if you have them, and you can bring your own stones if you’d like.

A materials fee of $10 per project is due to the instructor at the start of the class. Beth will also have additional jewelry kits available for purchase.

Guitar Chords
