Do you have concerns about falling? You can stay active and independent. A Matter of Balance is a nationally recognized program designed to help you manage falls and increase activity levels. This workshop includes gentle exercises, and has many additional components including group discussion, home safety, assertiveness skill building, and a visit from a guest healthcare professional. This is a Southern Maine Agency on Aging program. Minimum of 12 and maximum of 15 in class, so register soon. No charge, but a $20 donation suggested for anyone under age 65. Absolute Beginner Yoga

Yoga is for anybody and everybody! This class is great for anyone who wants to try yoga or has not practiced in awhile. You will be guided through basic poses and focus on proper body alignment. General Information for Yoga Classes: All equipment will be provided. Information learned through a yoga class should not be considered a substitute for medical advice. All yoga classes have a drop-in fee of $12.00 per week. No senior discount.

Accidental Fabric Landscapes

Create beautiful landscapes from batik and cotton fabric scraps and embellishments. You do not need an expensive pattern or kit to make a wall-hanging you will want to frame. Techniques taught are based on Karen Eckmeier’s original book: “Accidental Landscapes, Surprisingly Simple Quilted Scenes.” Maximum class size is 5 so register early. Material list is available upon registration.

This class is for painters of all levels, beginner through intermediate. We’ll cover topics such as composition, design, color theory, color mixing, color harmony, as well as materials and techniques. In addition to learning the fundamentals of painting with acrylics, class time will allow for experimentation, creativity and the opportunity to work on student’s own projects with the guidance of an instructor.

For this class, you will need to bring the following:

  • Acrylic paints (if you're buying a "set", try to make sure that the following colors are included): White, Cadmium yellow medium, Cadmium red medium, Cobalt Blue, Dioxazine purple, Ultramarine blue, Yellow ochre, Burnt Umber, Burnt Sienna, Permanent Green.
  • Brushes (various sizes)
  • Water cups
  • Palette (Wax paper will suffice)
  • Palette knife (for mixing paint)
  • Watercolor paper, illustration board, any heavy paper, canvas boards, stretched canvas (We’ll begin with heavy paper surfaces. Canvas need not be purchased at the beginning)

This class is for those students who have mastered basic English reading and writing skills. Student placement is based on individual writing and reading assessments. Students will set short and long term academic goals that compliment clear career and employment goals to help guide this student-centered learning environment. Topics are tailored to support individual goals. Course is partially funded through an AEFLA grant.
